Spring and fall are Savannah's sweet spots — mild weather, full foliage, and a full calendar of events. Summer is hot and humid but quieter on rates. December brings holiday lights and cooler evenings.
The Historic District is walkable. Tybee Island and Thunderbolt require a car or rideshare. Parking in the Historic District is limited — factor that in if you are driving.
When to visit
Spring
March – May
The most popular time to visit. Azaleas bloom in the squares, temperatures are mild, and the St. Patrick's Day festival draws large crowds in mid-March.
Summer
June – August
Hot and humid, but beach season on Tybee Island is in full swing. Rates are often lower and the city is less crowded than spring.
Fall
September – November
Warm days, cooler evenings, and a full events calendar. One of the best times to visit for a relaxed, unhurried Savannah experience.
Winter
December – February
Mild by most standards. The holiday season brings lights and events to the squares. January and February are the quietest months and often the best value.
Getting around
The Historic District is one of the most walkable urban areas in the South. Most squares, restaurants, and landmarks are within a 20-minute walk of each other. For Tybee Island, Thunderbolt, or day trips, a car or rideshare is the practical choice. The Savannah DOT free shuttle connects River Street to the Historic District.
