The creative scene
Starland has a concentration of working artists, designers, and makers. The studios and galleries along Bull Street are often open to visitors, and the neighborhood's murals change regularly as new artists are commissioned.
Savannah neighborhood guide
Savannah's most creative neighborhood — murals, independent restaurants, design studios, and a residential pace that feels a world away from the tourist corridors, yet only a 15-minute walk from the central squares.
The neighborhood
The Starland District occupies a stretch of Bull Street between roughly 38th and 41st Streets, just south of Forsyth Park and the Victorian District. It takes its name from the Starland Dairy building that anchored the neighborhood for decades. Today it is home to independent restaurants, coffee shops, vintage stores, design studios, and a growing number of murals that have made it one of Savannah's most photographed neighborhoods. The residential streets around Bull Street are quiet, tree-lined, and genuinely local in character — a contrast to the Historic District's more visitor-facing energy.

Starland's restaurant scene is small but strong — a handful of independent spots that draw locals as much as visitors. The neighborhood is a good base for visitors who want to eat well without competing for reservations at the Historic District's marquee restaurants.
Starland is quieter than the Historic District and more residential than River Street. It is a neighborhood for visitors who want to feel like they are staying in Savannah rather than visiting it.
On foot
Walk north on Bull Street from the Starland District to Forsyth Park — about 10 minutes. The park's southern entrance is at Park Avenue. The fountain is another 5 minutes north through the park.

Practical details
Starland has several good independent coffee shops along Bull Street. This is one of the better neighborhoods in Savannah for a morning coffee without a wait.
The Drayton Street Publix is about a 15-minute walk northeast. Starland is a reasonable base for self-catering stays — better than River Street, not quite as convenient as the central Historic District.
Street parking in Starland is generally easier than in the Historic District. Most residential streets have free parking, and the neighborhood is less congested than the central tourist corridors.
Starland is walkable to Forsyth Park and the southern Historic District. The DOT free shuttle does not serve Starland directly — plan to walk or use rideshare for trips to River Street or the northern Historic District.
Honest trade-offs
Starland is the right neighborhood for some visitors and the wrong one for others. These trade-offs help you decide.
Starland is a 25–30 minute walk from the central squares. If you want to be in the middle of the Historic District's squares and landmarks, a rental further north on Bull Street or Abercorn Street will save you time.
Starland's restaurants and bars close earlier than the Historic District's. If you want late-night dining or bar options within walking distance, the Historic District is a better base.
Starland is a genuinely residential neighborhood. Visitors who want the energy of River Street or the Historic District's tourist corridors may find it too quiet. Visitors who want to feel like a local will find it exactly right.
Starland has fewer vacation rentals than the Historic District. The best properties here book up quickly, especially on weekends and during peak season.
